He's So Unusual - A Memoir Of Boston Legend Rick Berlin

Boston, Massachusetts. Singer, songwriter, screen writers, musicians, activists, artists, documentary filmmakers, writers. Boston, like most large cities, is home to many artists and creative people. There are some unusual, many, but are not some brilliant quality. These people, the vast quantity and scope of work is always of high quality are uncommon. He also unusual because many creative people with high IQs do not match their clothes or tie his shoes can.

A planet, which just happens to be quite unusual to have your favorite people, Rick Berlin.
Rick inaugural list all things, and then some. And for 40 years has been producing the highest quality work and originality. The artists themselves every time he does something new redefines, but still recognizably the stylistic remains. Often in the forefront of art ahead of its time, but always, your passion and sincerity of the heart with modesty and humility to go along with it, comes.

He is a good man who cared deeply for others around him, and is quick to help a friend or stranger alike. A worker involved in many organizations, both political and social events, he is the kind of person who sincerely thought that you might be from another planet. 170 people with IQs in the range sometimes are able to stuff like this.

A masters degree in education with a Yale graduate, Rick started off teaching in private schools. A songwriter and pianist from a young age, Rick and his sister Lisa decided to make a band called "Orchestra Luna." They found four other members and Rick started working on music. Jumping ahead for a moment, Orchestra Luna's version of "Hey yankees the" music "you have heart," still a Boston radio tradition, is played on Red Sox opening day.

So ... Orchestra Luna was formed. Alice Tully Hall in New York City they had a show, and only appearance was a record executive. Group unusual stage shows, as "a music that is made, was never" statement, esoteric lyrics with poetry, music and finely executed by some players that one day in honor of the jazz and rock musicians will be is described by. Capitol Records signed the group the next week. A big budget producer, Rupert Holmes, who later "Pina Colada Song" will be known as the man was brought, and the self-titled album was released in mid 70.

Disappointing record sales, mostly due to an inadequate marketing budget, and many complained that the record company still far to warrant a large budget was. Chairman of the capital around the same time as the release was changed, and that non-productive artists, including Orchestra Luna, dropped. But the band is a legacy that maintained a strong cult following to this day have left behind. So much so, Europe and Asia, Sony Records, the album re-released last year.

The band broke up after firing the capital, but soon as reincarnated "Orchestra Luna II." Some original band members remained, and Liz Gallagher, second female lead singer, was replaced by Karla DeVito. Rick's sister Lisa also remained. "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" Meatloaf tour as a singer Carla Carla is you can detect, especially since the famous have other music projects, and now married to actor Robbie Benson. Benson shows that many teenagers and 70 films have been known to fix.

Orchestra Luna II member of the band was plagued with issues and improve just as "Luna. "Luna a progressive guitar, bass, drums, keyboards with Rick singing and keyboard doubling the lead," with field rock band. All the band members sang, and in Boston during the late 70's were among some of the top musicians. His complex vocal harmonies, searing guitar and Hammond organ solos, outstanding lyrics and music system that Rick was more mainstream than in the previous band was famous for, but still quite complex to the attention of musicians and fans alike , as well as record companies seeking.

Epic Records and Capitol the band went into a bidding war. Band's music rights to the band by the time producers (whose name will go unmentioned) and they were owned in a ridiculous amount of money right out the music on those held in order to sign. Bids were retracted, the companies walked away, the band broke up, and a few have not.

Rick solo performance which almost religious experience, which today still are not tried, including various musical projects. He eventually and that's just right for musicians and go, including many members of OLII, seemed to have found a combination. Group two second regional hit right off the bat, and soon attracted Epic Records, a subsidiary called "Handshake record."

Group called itself "the Berlin airlift," and they travel to New York City to record a new album. Its release, it immediately a best seller in the Northeast, and then got a call. Handshake the bankruptcy was announced. They were counting on airlift them to get out of financial crisis, but was released before the record was close to finishing.

Mid-90s, Rick "Rick Berlin: The Movie, such as" formation through several bands during the late 80's. "Rick Berlin Band," and "style Winters Project" I lead guitar player with Rick Rick Berlin Band had the good fortune of being unreliable.

I met Rick many years ago when I was a teenager with a rock group called "Adrenalin." Rick and the crew of Luna took us under his proverbial wing, and had worked in the studio with us and be our regular opening act. Singer and Adrenalin, Gary Cherone and Paul Geary for the drummer, went on very popular group, as "extreme." I with the band was involved in a very early stage, but other interests ... Go figure decided to pursue.

I kept in touch with Rick every so often, and have to get up to Boston (I was living in Rhode Island at the time) every so often to see the style and Rick Winters project many of the solo performance.

During all this, Rick managed to produce the amount of writing, artwork, books, screenplays, music, which he still does today. Boston currently part of "Jamaica Plain," Rick's fifth CD release his solo music is known as working on a documentary about. Some with guest artists, but the most recent, and is one of my favorites, "I and Van Gogh." Rick and a piano. Songs and lyrics brief moment of quiet reflection with a lot of space, and the only musical art with a normal job offer, haunting.

Rick is unusual. Unusual that the consistently high quality produce popular work, a huge cult fan base is as successful, and still in the face of every conceivable type of adversity keeps on ticking. Natural catastrophes are only mentioned here. Mismatch is always in his dress, but always pulls it also as a fashion statement without trying. He like the rest of us his own shoes, ties and can function, but such an interesting and unusual way, that you can not place your finger on it. People like to see something different, things that we do not hear things that we could never imagine, think and put everything together in comprehensible, but still leaves you thinking. Unusual? In some cases I think these people are just more developed.
